Fine chips, formed as the wood processing waste: cutting, whittling, rolling, etc., accounts for about 10% of wood processed in sawmills. These are also a by-product of machining and milling in wood processing facilities.

Sawdust can be divided, depending on their features into: wet, dry, with bark, and without bark. Sawdust moisture level varies and fluctuates from 8-15% for dry sawdust and from 16-60% for wet sawdust.
